Dennis Bykowski, Director of Settlement

Dennis Bykowski - Director of Settlement
Dennis Bykowski is responsible for the processing and disposition of applications, complaints and other matters that come before the Board. He supervises the dispute resolution activities and investigations of the Board's officers. He also directs the scheduling of hearings and informal pre-hearing settlement initiatives. Dennis joined the Board in 1976 as a labour relations officer, and has served as the Board's registrar for northern Alberta.  Dennis is a graduate of the University of Alberta Business Faculty.

Shawn McLeod - Legal Counsel
Shawn graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1994 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1995.  After initially practicing in the area of general civil litigation, his practice focused on the areas of labour relations and employment law.  Since joining the Board in 2002, his responsibilities include providing legal advice to the Board on various matters, representing the Board on judicial review applications and other litigation involving the Board and sitting on the Board’s management team.
Nancy McDermid

Nancy McDermid - Manager of Settlement (Southern Region)
Nancy has responsibility for the supervision of the Board's staff and caseload activities generated in the southern half of the province. Nancy has served as a labour relations officer with the Board since 1988. Her work experience includes investigations and settlement activities with the Alberta Human Rights Commission.
Bob Poburan

Bob Poburan - Manager of Administrative Services
Bob Poburan joined the Board as manager of administrative services after 17 years at the former Department of Alberta Labour. Bob has spent most of his career helping Alberta labour relations practitioners with their collective bargaining statistics and research, co-ordinating Alberta Labour's collective bargaining publication program and acting as an officer with the department's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy program.
Laurie Calverley, Labour Relations Officer

Laurie Calverley - Labour Relations Officer - Edmonton
Laurie joined the Alberta Labour Relations Board as a Labour Relations Officer in February 2008. Since 1998, she has gained employee and labour relations experience in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, working in Hospitality, Health Care, Utility and Pipeline industries. Laurie is a graduate of the University of Alberta and Grant MacEwan human resources management program.
Tara Chepil

Tara Oland - Labour Relations Officer
Tara joined the Alberta Labour Relations Board in October 2007. Tara previously worked with the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission as an investigator/ conciliator. Tara is a graduate of the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Human Justice and a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology).

Barbara Cook - Labour Relations Officer - Calgary
Barbara Cook's career as an officer of the Board began in 1986. Her work experience includes service with the Alberta Human Rights Commission and with the Employment Standards Branch of Alberta Labour.

Dan Galdamez
- Labour Relations Officer - Edmonton

Dan joined the Board in April 2008. Previously, Dan worked for the Health Sciences Association (HSAA) as a Labour Researcher and a Labour Relations Officer.  Prior to HSAA, Dan worked for the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference as an Administrator.  Dan has a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) from the University of Alberta, and a Management Studies Diploma and a Human Resources Certificate from Grant MacEwan College. 

Betty-Lou Stelling

Betty-Lou Stelling - Labour Relations Officer - Calgary
Betty-Lou Stelling served as an employment standards officer prior to joining the Board.  She spent 13 years at the Employment Standards Branch before joining the Board as a Labour Relations Officer in 1995.
Nancy Tong, Labour Relations Officer

Nancy Tong - Labour Relations Officer - Edmonton
Nancy Tong has been a labour relations officer in the Board's Edmonton office since 1987. She was formerly an Alberta Labour employment standards officer. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, Nancy was a labour officer with the Hong Kong government.

Pauline Briggs - Administrative Officer - Edmonton
Pauline Briggs joined the Board in 1981 and has served in all administative roles at the Board. She is currently the Assistant to the Legal Counsel, Assistant to the Manager of Administrative Services and the Board's Webmaster.

Genie Garwasiuk

Genie Garwasiuk - Trade Union Records/Quality Control - Edmonton
Genie joined the Board in 1992 after working for the Alberta Fire Commissioners Office. She has held several administrative positions in her 14 years at the Board and is currently maintaining the Trade Union files, researching and updating historical records in the database, back-up hearing clerk and fills many outside information requests.

Marlene Leslie - Executive Assistant to the Chair - Edmonton
Marlene commenced her tenure with the Provincial Government on December 23, 1985 holding positions with the Public Affairs Bureau AV & Exhibit Services, Employment Standards as well as with the Labour Relations Board in Calgary prior to returning to Edmonton when she became the Executive Assistant to the Chair in May 2000.
